BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Cheers echoed through the stadium as 52 teams took their mark at the starting line for Relay-for-Life. Tiff's Trekkers is just one leg of this 52 team relay. The family members walked in honor of Tiffany Hart. She passed away last year at the age of 35 after battling Lymphoma.
"It hurts to loose somebody close to you. Cancer is a serious disease, and it needs to be cured," Tiffany's brother Matthew Green says.
"I really do miss her. I don't want anyone else to go through what I went through. I figured I would as much as I could to help," says Richard Green, Tiffany's other brother.
And there was no shortage of people willing to help out by lacing up this year.
"We have 52 teams this year which is amazing. Last year, we had around 30, so it's a big, big increase," says event chair Daisy Watson.
Walking wasn't the only thing that kept this relay rocking; the sounds of Lady Gaga's hit song Just Dance and other karaoke favorites could be heard throughout the evening. There were also video games, martial arts demonstrations and a live band among other activities.
"We're very excited. Our whole thing is pulling a all-nighter for those who are fighters," says Francine Billingslea, Long Beach High School Key Club.
And it's for those fighters, the ones still here and the ones who remain through memories, that kept relayers going all night in hopes of a cancer-free tomorrow.
