ESCATAWPA, MS (WLOX) - Jackson County deputies swarmed the Hill Road Apartments in Escatawpa Wednesday to arrest 30-year-old Alicia Renee Funches. They believe she and Michael Bernard Henry may be involved in the violent murders of Cherilene and Edward Eugene Redd.
"The United States Marshals Service is currently, as we speak, searching for Michael Bernard Henry that we believed fled to Georgia. That's where he was originally from," Lt. Ken McClenic said.
Investigators say on April 18, Funches and Henry went to visit her relatives in Jeff Davis County. Their car stopped near the victims' home.
"They broke down and the elderly couple helped them," Sheriff Mike Byrd said.
"The elderly couple, I believe he was 74 and his wife was 70, they were bound and strangled in their home there in Bassfield," McClenic said about the violent murders. "Their 1997 Lumina vehicle was taken."
Later, deputies found the car more than 100 miles away. It was abandoned and burned in the Big Point community of Jackson County. Within days, investigators say they linked the two suspects to the arson.
"We can place them within in a mile of the victims' home, and we can place them in the car. I would say they are very much persons of interest to the Jefferson Davis Authorities."
Alicia Funches in the Jackson County jail on a $10,000 bond.
