Three South Mississippi students compete for $10,000

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Three South Mississippi students are in the running for $10,000 to put toward higher education.

The Upromise Tuition Tales video contest, which runs through May 3, encourages people to submit a 30-second video entry at The videos will be judged on quality, fit to theme and creativity.

One contestant in each of three categories - Saving for College, In College Now and Paying it Back - will win $10,000 for college education expenses. Those three winners and 9 finalists will win a $250 Bed Bath & Beyond® gift card and a $250 Bank of America® Visa® Gift Card.

Gina Pelletteri of Lumberton entered the contest, not for herself, but for a friend. According to Gina, her friend, Tanya, had gone through a rough patch and is just now turning her life around.  Tanya would like to become an occupational therapist and the money can really help her achieve her dream and get her through school.  She currently attends Pearl River Community College.  You can view her plea for the money here:

Sara Stringer of Poplarville is a full-time student and mother of twin three-year old boys, who said winning the $10,000 prize would help her get through college. You can view Sara's plea for the money here:

The top 12 videos will be selected by a combination of online votes and a panel of judges. Once selected, all 12 finalists will be posted online and the public will vote (May 12 - 20) to determine which Tuition Tales video wins in each category. Contestants can submit entries on behalf of themselves, a family member or friend.  Winners will be announced on May 20.
