BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Popp's Ferry Bridge in Biloxi is now open. Traffic started rolling through at 7:30a.m. The bridge opened up 3 days ahead of schedule. Joe McGee construction is awarded $75,000 for each day the project wraps up early.
The company, based out of Lake, Mississippi, started working on the bridge Saturday, April 11th. A barge hit the bridge about three weeks earlier. It's only been two weeks from the day crews started working to opening day. The bidding and planning process extended the entire project out to a little more than a month.
The pedestrian walk-way will not yet be opened. Special alumnium railing has to be specially ordered. It's set to open up in June.
