Accident slows I-10 traffic in Jackson County

By WLOX Staff

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - An overturned 18-wheeler in the west bound lanes has slowed traffic on Interstate 10 this afternoon between Gautier and Ocean Springs. The accident happened at mile marker 53, just two miles from where another 18-wheeler overturned this week.

Friday's accident was much less serious. The truck was carrying light fixtures, and the driver suffered only minor injuries. The accident is being made worse by curious drivers.

Highway Patrol spokesman Johnny Poulos told WLOX News there have been a few fender benders caused by drivers slowing down to look at the wreck.

The driver told officers that traffic began to slow down quickly, so to avoid cars, he drove off onto the shoulder. The shoulder of the road was soft, and led to the truck overturning.

Poulos said traffic is backed up about six miles in both directions and expects the accident to be cleared by 6:30 Friday evening.
