PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Pascagoula Police say a man shot and killed a man Friday morning after he walked in on the man climbing through his mother's bedroom window.

It happened around 1am at the Granada Apartments on Chicot Road.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered Javorous Darnell Tims, 20, of Pascagoula, lying between the buildings. Tims died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The resident told police she woke up when she heard a noise at her window, and realized someone was trying to break in. She called out to her son, then left the room to wake him up. The son grabbed his handgun and went to his mother's bedroom.

When he entered her room, he told police he saw Javorous Tims climbing through the window. He fired two shots in the direction of the window. Tims was injured, but managed to get back out the window and about 80 feet from the building before collapsing.

"At this point, our investigation into this unfortunate incident indicates that the homeowner and residents acted appropriately, taking the actions they felt necessary to protect themselves. However the facts in this case, as with any incident that results in the death of a human being, will be presented to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office for Grand Jury review," Pascagoula Police said in a written statement to the media.
