PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - When the 2,632nd Wal-mart Super Center opens in the Pass this fall, it will have the chain's newest look. The store front your use to seeing has been given a face lift. An eco friendly face lift.
Assistant Superintendent with Clark Construction Jon Moran says, "The red area is going to be covered with tan and brown panels. That's also a new item. It's recycled materials; they're calling it like a green store. Where they are using more recyclable products and less impact on the environment. And even the construction site itself is what they call a green site. Meaning that all of the concrete has been recycled the asphalt has been recycled."
Jon Moran is assistant superintendent for the project, and his company, Clark Construction, has built more than 50 Wal-mart stores over the past 20 years.
Moran says, "We're right on schedule. We're probably about 50 percent done with the building and site. Couldn't ask for anything to go any smoother."
Moran says customers can expert to see a difference on the inside of the 143,000 square foot building, as well.
"The pharmacy is no longer in the very front. They took the pharmacy and moved it a little more in the middle of the building," Moran says. "All the normal stuff that a Super Wal-mart has, it will also have the groceries. It will have some automotive, but it will not have a tire and lube express like the previous store that was here had. Wal-mart decided not to go back with that. There is going to be a vision center. There is going to be a Subway inside.'
Pass Christian Mayor Chipper McDermott says, "Everything we need under one roof."
McDermott expects the Super Center to generate 700,000 to 800,000 dollars a year in sales taxes for his city. Plus, it will create about 350 jobs.
"So this is a big, big economic engine for the Pass," McDermott says.
The Super Center is scheduled to open in late September or early October.
