Bay St. Louis (WLOX) - Jeff Hopgood has been named head coach for the Bay High Varsity football team. Brennan Compretta, former head coach, has accepted the position of Curriculum and Testing Coordinator.

Compretta, who has been the Tiger's head coach for five years, is "really looking forward to the opportunity that comes with [his] new position." As the Curriculum and Testing Coordinator, Compretta will organize and manage Bay High's subject area testing program, including test preparation and remediation. He will also lead the school's efforts to write and revise district common assessments, and provide professional development to teachers who deliver the curriculum.

Compretta is not walking away altogether from the Varsity team. He will continue to be a part of the coaching staff. "We have made progress from where we started several years ago," states Compretta. "I know that coach Hopgood is going to do a phenomenal job. I look forward to continuing our work together."

Hopgood, who was previously the offensive coordinator for the Tigers, is "excited about the opportunity." Hopgood has coached the Tigers for seven years and is looking forward to leading the team next season. "We've got a good group of seniors coming back next season. The kids have been working hard in the weight room this off season, and we hope to field a competitive team in August." states Hopgood.

Will Seymour, Athletic Director at Bay High, feels that "Coach Compretta did a good job as head coach.  He has enabled our football team to reach the playoffs 4 out of the 5 years he has been the head coach.  I am excited that Coach Hopgood has accepted the position and look forward to him having a successful career here at Bay High."
