Gautier murder suspect killed by Florida deputies

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Florida officials have confirmed that a Gautier murder suspect was killed in a shootout with police this weekend. Rodney Joseph Lasseigne's mother, Juanita Gibson, was beaten to death in July 2008 in her Gautier home. Her son was the prime suspect in the case.

Deputies in St. John County, Florida say they received information from the U.S. Marshal's Service that Lasseigne might be in the area. After matching the disabled Mississippi tag on the vehicle to the wanted man, officers approached the car.  That's when deputies say Lasseigne approached them with a sawed off shotgun, and they opened fire.

Lasseigne had been on the run for months, and was twice featured on the TV show "America's Most Wanted."
