GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Gulfport Mayor Brent Warr his wife Laura will learn the names of the government's witnesses against them about a month before the trial begins. That's better than the typical five days.
In January, a 16 count federal indictment against the Warrs was unsealed, charging them with making fraudulent claims when they applied for and received a homeowner's assistance grant.
On Tuesday, Federal Judge Walter Gex upheld most of a magistrate's order last month to give the Warrs more information about the federal case against them.
Normally, the government releases the names of witness five days before a trial begins, but Judge Gex said the Warrs and their attorneys should get that information 30 days before the September 8th trial. However, the Warrs will only get to know the names of potential courtroom witnesses, not the names of all co-conspirators alleged by the government.
The public won't know who any of the witnesses are until they appear in court, because Judge Gex has ordered that list sealed.
