Steve bring home the green jacket

Baseball has the world series. Football has the Super Bowl. This week in Augusta, Georgia golf has The Masters. The premier golfing event in America if not the world. Names like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are known to anyone who even has a passing interest in golf. But on the coast this week we are all going to be rooting for Steve Wilson from Ocean Springs.

To our knowledge Wilson is the only person ever from South Mississippi to earn the right to play in The Masters. Steve Wilson is living the dream of his life this week. He will be playing golf on one of the most beautiful and challenging golf courses in America. What is so amazing about Wilson is that he is not a professional golfer, but an amateur who loves the game and was fortunate to win a major amateur tournament that gave him a spot in The Masters.

Wilson is in a field of about 150 golfers who will be trying to make the cut Thursday and Friday to play in the final two rounds this weekend. Regardless of whether Steve makes the cut or not he is already a winner in our book. Playing at The Masters with the best golfers in the world has to be a dream come true. Steve Wilson we hope you birdie every hole and come back wearing the coveted green jacket.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
