BILOXI MS.(WLOX) - America's car industry has been going through a sales slump of historic proportions. Most companies report sales losses of between 35% and 45% over the last year.
Here in South Mississippi, car dealerships are starting to see signs of recovery. "Showroom traffic is picking up and the phones are ringing" says Steve Dibble, Sale Manager at Preston Hood Chevrolet. Consumer confidence has been bolstered by significant incentives and South Mississippi car dealers appear to be taking advantage of that. "Car and truck sales in the last 30 days have increased on the coast" according to Butch Oustalet, President of the Mississippi Automobile Dealers Association.
Car dealers are seeing light at the end of the tunnel and are optimistic about 2009.
