BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - If you love musical theatre and want to see a show you probably haven't seen before, this weekend is your chance. Jekyll and Hyde makes its debut on the coast.
It's the story of good vs evil, based on the classic novel, "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson. The musical version of the show opened on Broadway in 1997. This local KNS production is the first time it will be seen in South Mississippi.
Joel Herr plays the tormented split personality characters, Jekyll and Hyde.
"Jekyll is somewhat boring, straight laced, keeps everything in check, and Hyde lets it all hang out, lives life to its fullest," Herr said.
His transformation from Jekyll to Hyde is remarkable.
Loree Dalgo took on the project as director and choreographer. She's pleased with her talented cast.
"This cast is unbelievable. As a director you have a vision, and I've been dreaming about this long before we went into production. And now they've made that dream a reality," Dalgo said.
KNS newcomer Chad Gibson plays Dr. Jekyll's friend, Utterson.
Herr says singing with this cast is amazing.
"Every song is great, beautiful melodies, great harmonies, and everyone carries them off beautifully," Herr said.
Tara Rhoades plays Jekyll's love interest Emma. Amber Mills is Hyde's temptress, Lucy.
A talented cast of more than 20 round out the characters, bringing the sights and sounds of Jekyll and Hyde to life.
Jekyll and Hyde is this weekend only at the Saenger Theatre in Biloxi, with Friday and Saturday 7:30pm performances, and a Sunday matinee. You may purchase tickets online through www.knstheatre.com. You can also buy tickets at ABC rental or Crown Dodge in Pascagoula.
