SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Severe weather moved through our area Thursday afternoon bringing strong winds, rain and hail. Around 2pm, the bad weather made it look like night time in Pass Christian.

By 4pm, there were still some people without power in Hancock and West Harrison County. Coast Electric reported more than 950 people without power in the Ansley Community alone. Singing River Electric has restored power to about 1400 customers in Jackson County who experienced outages earlier in the day.

In Gulfport, Elliott McGrew reported he saw a small tornado touch down near Washington Avenue by the airport. A trained weather spotter reported a tornado in Bay St Louis along with golf ball size hail.

A third of the old gym roof at the Gulfport Navy Seabee Base was blown off and some telephone lines were knocked down.

When the storm moved into Biloxi it delivered a similar punch, dropping dime sized hail and a deluge of rain, along with lots of wind.
