Woolmarket family escapes burning house; dog missing

By WLOX Staff

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A Woolmarket family is safe today after escaping from their burning house Thursday morning.

The fire broke out around 5am in the East Shadow Creek community. That's about the same time severe weather was moving through the area, but it's not known if the two were related.

A neighbor reported hearing a loud boom and looking out to see the fire, so a lightning strike is suspected.

The Martell family got out of the house safely, but their dog is missing. The house appears to be destroyed.

Woolmarket and Biloxi firefighters responded to the call. They had to truck in their own water because there was no water in the fire hydrants.
