Hear Ye... Hear Ye... Mayor Billy McDonald has proclaimed November 10th Dr. Phillip Terrell day in Pass Christian. Terrell served as Superentindant of Pass Christian schools for ten years before a stroke forced him into early retirement.
On Sunday hundreds of students, co-workers and friends held an elaborate appreciation day ceremony to thank Dr. Terrell for his tireless dedication to the children of Pass Christian. Doctor Terrell received a standing ovation from a thankful community for his countless contributions to the Pass Christian School District. Terrell's colleagues credit him for getting a ten point one million dollar bond issue passed, out of that came a new high school, gymnasium and numerous renovations at the lower and middle schools. They also say quality of education standard was raised significantly. Pass Christian School Board President Becky Montgomery says, "it sure is a testimony to his leadership as to what the district has accomplished, we're a four point seven level school district, we were a little over a three when he came, we are just blessed to have had him as our superintendant."
Through the years Dr. Terrell was courted by several much larger school districts, but he chose to stay in Pass Christian. He and his wife Ruth say they have decided to stay in the Pass where they plan to enjoy retirement.
