PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - Imagine a more than 3,000 square foot home in eight separate pieces. Now imagine those sections being connected one day to create a home on Scenic Drive in Pass Christian.
Mississippi Cottage Company is recreating a historic home that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The sections, or modules, were built in a South Carolina factory and delivered to South Mississippi.
Huge cranes placed the modules on top of one another in a dramatic flurry of activity.
"We had a lot of people standing around and watching the cranes lift the module more than 70 feet into the air," said Chris Clark, President of Mississippi Cottage Company.
The exterior of the home is a replica of the original structure. Clark is giving the interior a more contemporary feeling.
Modular construction is becoming more and more popular around South Mississippi. Clark said his company combines conventional construction with modular technology to create a stronger structure, built in less time.
