GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) - Seven of 20 Mississippi sandhill cranes released late last year have died.

Six of the seven endangered birds died in coyote attacks at the National Wildlife Refuge in Gautier. Biologist Scott Hereford says another may have flown low over Interstate ten and hit a vehicle.

The birds were released in December, the deaths occurred in January and February. Another of the cranes has a shattered leg and is now at the Audubon Center in New Orleans.
