HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Police say the man who committed suicide after attempting to rob a Slidell Louisiana fast food restaurant was a member of the Louisiana National Guard ordered to assist with the oil spill.

Slidell Police say on Tuesday afternoon, just after 2pm, they were called to the scene of a one car accident on east bound 1-10 at the Jordan River Bridge near Diamondhead. That's where they found 24-year-old John Paul Loupe of LaPlace, Louisiana with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police say Loupe was a suspect in an attempted robbery in Slidell. That crime is still under investigation. Forensic Pathologist Doctor Paul McGarry said Loupe's death is being ruled a suicide.
