Dolphins moving closer to shore

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - If you are out in the Mississippi Sound or around the barrier islands, you might see more dolphins than usual.

Institute for Marine Mammal Studies Director Moby Solangi says Saturday they saw groups of dolphins by the west side of Horn Island, by Ship Island, on the north and south sides of Cat Island and several were in the ship channel.

Dr. Solangi says all total they spotted about 100 dolphins. He says none of the dolphins they saw were in oil, but oil was nearby some of them.

Solangi and others went up in a chopper to look for dolphins after reports that there were dolphins in the sheen. He says it looks like the animals have moved closer to shore, away from the oil.
