GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Emeril's Gulf Coast Fish House will close its doors at the end of May, sources tell WLOX News.
The fine dining restaurant is part of the restaurant group owned by Chef Emeril Lagasse of New Orleans. It's located inside the Island View Casino Resort in Gulfport.
Officials with Island View confirmed the closing Tuesday night. A source told WLOX News that employees were told about the decision on Friday.
The restaurant opened with great fanfare in June 2007. At the time, Lagasse said he hoped the restaurant would be a small step toward South Mississippi's recovery from Hurricane Katrina. Good Morning America's Robin Roberts even reported live from the Island View the morning of the opening.
"Opening a restaurant at the Island View is particularly special to me because my family and I have very close ties to the Gulf Coast," Lagasse said in 2007. "My wife Alden grew up in Gulfport and we have spent a lot of time with our family and friends in this area."
There's no word on what type of restaurant, if any, will replace Emeril's at Island View.
