Concrete fishing pier coming to Biloxi's Pt. Cadet

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The old Point Cadet fishing bridge, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, will soon be replaced by a multi-million dollar concrete fishing pier.

The City of Biloxi released details about the project Friday. Mayor A.J. Holloway said the $9 million pier will have a host of amenities and be a major attraction.

"I think it's going to do a tremendous amount for the city," Holloway said. "It was a very popular fishing pier to begin with before Katrina, and by us improving it to where it's going to have lighting, sidewalks on each side a turnaround in the middle and a turnaround on the end."

FEMA is paying the entire cost of the new pier, which will be built to withstand hurricane force winds and storm surge.

The mayor hopes to have the pier completed by the end of next year.
