Seattle Choir Delivers Music And Message

The Total Experience Gospel Choir is known throughout the world for giving listeners the "total experience" of gospel music, from traditional to contemporary.

They've won over 150 awards and recognitions, and have recorded with some of the greatest in gospel music.

But Wednesday afternoon, choir members came off of the stage, and made a difference in another way.

A small group of the choir, including 15-year old DeShe' Brooks, worked here at a home in the Forest Heights community, repairing a carport damaged by Katrina.

"I'm not a construction person. I'm just sitting here doing whatever I can," said Brooks.

And doing whatever they can is the bulk of their mission.

While they try to deliver a positive spiritual message through song, they want to physically be an example as well.

"It's one thing to hear about the devastation, you know but to see it, and it is our mission, and we are a mission choir. You know we go wherever the need is," said choir member Jessica Howard.

And they, under the leadership of Pastor Patrinell Wright, raised money and supplies to help those in need in South Mississippi and Louisiana.

But while they have only been here for about two days, they are already learning life lessons.

"I told my grandma before we left, I was like, when we go on this trip, we're gonna find out a lot of things about ourselves that we didn't even know. And so I found out a lot already and we're not even at the hardest part of the trip," said Brooks.

They believe they will be mentally and physically stronger after this experience, something they will be able to share with others in their ministry with a mission.

If you missed the Total Experience Gospel Choir, the group will appear Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in the Sawmill Mall in Laurel, Mississippi.
