HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A Gulfport teacher arrested on sexual battery and molestation charges was released after posting a one-million dollar bond Saturday.  Catryna Martin, a teacher at North Gulfport seventh and eighth grade school is accused of having a sexual relationship with a former, female student.

Police arrested the 28-year-old science teacher and basketball coach Friday. Gulfport Police Chief Allen Weatherford said the parents prompted police to look into the allegations involving the 14-year-old girl.

James Griffin with the Gulfport Police Department said, "During the course of the investigation, it was learned that these incidents took place while the student was being tutored at Martin's residence."

Police say the incidents leading to her arrest took place during the first week of this February.

Harrison County School Superintendent Henry Arledge says, for now, Martin has been suspended without pay.

But, he says he will recommend Martin permanently lose her job with the district. Arledge says Martin can go before the school board to request a hearing on the matter. If convicted of sexual battery and molestation, Martin will lose her teaching license.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
