OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - A major accident is tying up traffic on north bound Fort Bayou Bridge in Ocean Springs.

A vehicle flipped and hit an electrical pole about 4:30pm. Live wires are down and police are asking drivers to steer clear of Highway 609, both north and south bound lanes. Traffic has been backed up for miles in both directions.

Ocean Springs Police say the driver hit the guard rail while headed north on Washington Avenue at the draw bridge. That caused her to flip over and clip the top of the pole.

Officials say it damaged a major electrical service line that services a lot of the northern part of Ocean Springs. Work crews from Mississippi Power are on scene.
