Seemann Composites Expanding In Gulfport

GULFPORT (WLOX) -- There was plenty to celebrate Monday at Seemann Composites. The 20-year-old company unveiled two catamarans that will be used in NOAA's Marine Sanctuary Program.

"They're being used for research mostly. The program is a program which protects these very valuable resources off our coastline, very beautiful places that need to be studied and maintained. That's what NOAA's doing, and these jobs help them get out their and do their job," said Bill Seemann, President of Seemann Composites.

There was also a ribbon cutting for the company's new facility. The 50,000 square foot expansion marks the third site for the Gulfport-based company.

"The most exciting thing for us is that we have more than doubled since the storm. We have a great work force. We've been able to find good people and keep moving ahead, and that's our most exciting and most proud achievement," Seemann said.

Flanked by South Mississippi Congressman Gene Taylor and U.S. Senator Thad Cochran, Gulfport Mayor Brent Warr was among the many dignitaries at the ribbon cutting.

"It means better paying jobs and continued growth for the city. We're very excited about it," Mayor Warr said. "The economy is doing some kind crazy stuff, and nobody's excited about the national economy right now, but things are still moving along really well in Gulfport. We're continuing to have growth every day and big announcements like this. So if we can keep it going, that will be good."
