Trang Pham Bui

Trang Pham-Bui has worked at WLOX since 1989. Believe it or not, during her high school years, she rarely watched the news, and had never even considered a career in television. Her life story is worthy of a "Top Story." 

Trang was born in Vietnam in 1967. Her family fled Vietnam, during the war in 1975. The refugees lived in Rockford, IL, for four years, then moved to New Orleans, LA. She attended O. Perry Walker High School, and worked odd jobs to help support her parents and six brothers and sisters.

Her most interesting job was as an interpreter for the Border Patrol Division at the Immigration and Naturalization Office. Her worst job was Assistant Janitor, cleaning school bathrooms, scrubbing baseboards, and scraping gum from under the chairs and desks.

During her senior year in high school, Trang considered majoring in Psychology. But a friend encouraged her to consider TV news.  She received a Jaycees scholarship in Communications, and she enrolled at Loyola University in New Orleans. Three and half years later, Trang graduated Summa Cum Laude. Trang applied for a reporter's position at WLOX, but was hired as a Promotions Assistant. A few months later, she became a News Producer.

Trang also worked at WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge for nearly a year, then moved back to Biloxi after she married her husband, Andrew Bui, in 1993. Years later, Trang finally reached her goal of being a News Reporter. She took over the Assignment Education beat, because she has children in school and understands many of the issues related to kids and academics.

Since Trang speaks Vietnamese fluently, she also covers stories concering the Asian community.

Trang loves to shop, and every sale, discount, and bargain is reason to celebrate. Her weakness is in the kitchen. Trang has been known to burn cookies, undercook meat, and toss too much salt into soup. Amazingly, her husband and kids are still alive.

Trang is the mother of two boys and two girls. The Bui family lives in Jackson County.
