WLOX hired Danielle Thomas in 1998 as an editor and sports reporter. She then moved on to be the assistant assignment editor and eventually a news reporter/photographer.
Before moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, she spent a year working at WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg. She produced "Sports Journal," a half-hour football show that aired twice a week. She also covered area sporting events for WDAM and the University of Southern Mississippi newspaper "The Student Printz." She delivered sportscasts for WUSM Radio.
Danielle graduated Magna Cum Laude from the USM Honors College with a Bachelor of Arts degree Radio, Television and Film and a degree in Foreign Language with emphasis on Spanish. She wrote a thesis called "Take Me Out to the Ballgame: The Relationship Between Fans, Media, and Sports." While attaining her Spanish degree, she did study abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico while living with a local family. During severe weather, Danielle sometimes delivers reports for WLOX in Spanish. She will also interview and translate at times for people who don't speak English. Danielle has traveled to several parts of Mexico as well to the Bahamas, England, Italy, Spain and Morocco. Venice and Marrakech were her favorite cities.
Danielle is a native of Laurel, Mississippi and spent most of her childhood in San Diego, California. During her time at WLOX she has also spent many years helping adults who want to learn a new language. Danielle or "Daniela" as her students call her, has taught English As A Second Language and taught Spanish as part of a community education programs.
Danielle enjoys dancing, baking, genealogy research, crocheting, and playing her guitar. She is a songwriter who plays frequently on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, in New Orleans and in Nashville, Tennessee. Danielle released an album called "Pretty Words" and takes part in the Mississippi Songwriters Festival every year as a performer and one of the hosts.
Danielle is the only daughter of Reuben Thomas and Janice Thomas.
