Police Chief To Fight Speeding Ticket

The police chief in Ocean Springs has been issued a speeding ticket, by one of his own officers.

Mayor Pro Tem Danny Jalanavich confirms that Chief Kerry Belk was issued the ticket last week. Belk plans to fight the case in court.

A hearing has been set for February 9th. City Judge Matthew Mestayer has recused himself from hearing the case. So has the city prosecutor. Another judge will be brought in to hear the case.

Sources tell WLOX News the ticketing officer may have been upset because he was recently passed over for promotion.

Belk says he's pleading not guilty, and wants the truth to come out in court.
