MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Daniel Durhart threw for a touchdown and ran in another to help lead Alabama State to a 47-22 win over Mississippi Valley State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference opener for both teams Saturday night. Alabama State (2-1, 1-0) took the lead with a 79-yard opening drive capped by 19-yard TD strike from Durhart to DeMario Bell and never let it go.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Blake Sims passed for two touchdowns and rushed for a third in three quarters and might have staked his claim as No. 3 Alabama's undisputed starting quarterback in a 52-12 victory over Southern Miss on Saturday night. Sims was 12-of-17 passing for 168 yards for the Crimson Tide (3-0) ahead of the team's Southeastern Conference opener against Florida.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - D.J. Vinson ran for a career-high five touchdowns to lift UAB to a 41-14 victory over Alabama A&M on Saturday. Vinson had 106 yards on 25 carries for the Blazers (2-1). Cody Clements threw 18 of 23 for 228 yards. Brandon Wells was 8 of 22 for 166 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs and was intercepted three times.

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Dak Prescott rushed, threw and caught a touchdown pass for the second time in his career as Mississippi State downed South Alabama 35-3 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Saturday. South Alabama (1-1) sold out their first game in school history, with a crowd of 38,129 on hand.
