NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The way Anthony Davis blossomed into an All-Star in his second pro year provided the New Orleans Pelicans with hope for the future during an otherwise bleak season. But to lead New Orleans back to the playoffs for the first time since 2011, Davis will need a lot more help than he's gotten so far. The Pelicans went 34-48, finishing 15 games behind Dallas.

HOUSTON (AP) - James Shields struck out 12 in eight innings and the Kansas City Royals completed a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros with a 5-1 win Thursday. Shields gave up one run and four hits, all singles.

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Tupelo Public School District Superintendent Gearl Loden says the local high school football field will be called Renasant Field once new blue turf is installed this summer. The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports the announcement came Thursday at a news conference.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Matt Kuchar continued his stellar play from the Masters by putting together a strong start at the RBC Heritage, shooting a 5-under 66 on Thursday to share the first-round lead with Scott Langley and William McGirt. There also was no major letdown for Masters runner-up Jordan Spieth, who opened with a 69.
