BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - An abortion rights organization is challenging a Louisiana law requiring doctors who perform abortions to be able to admit patients to a nearby hospital. The Center for Reproductive Rights filed its lawsuit in Baton Rouge on behalf of abortion clinics in Shreveport, Bossier City and Metairie and two doctors.
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A Lafayette High School student has been arrested after a photo of a special-needs student was taken in a bathroom at the school and posted online. Police say two other students said the 17-year-old male suspect took the photo without the victim's knowledge.
DIAMONDHEAD, Miss. (AP) - Land near the Bay of St. Louis just off of Interstate 10 near Diamondhead has been approved for a casino. The Mississippi Gaming Commission approved the site for Diamondhead Casino Corporation. The next time the casino will go before regulators is when financing is in place and the project is ready for construction.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Federal wildlife officials' are within the law when they declared thousands of acres in Louisiana and Mississippi as 'critical habitat' for an endangered frog species. A federal judge rejected landowners' argument that the Fish and Wildlife Service should have prepared an environmental impact statement on the designation.
