OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

STARKVILLE, MS (AP) - Officials say a 22-year-old Mississippi State University student has died, days after falling down a flight of stairs at an off-campus party in Starkville.

Taylor Lyons of Ocean Springs died Monday night at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt said. He described the cause of death as closed-head trauma.

Lyons fell about six feet down some stairs early Friday at a home in downtown Starkville's Cotton District. Hunt says toxicology tests could determine whether alcohol was involved.

Police say the fall was an accident. Lyons was on the president's list this past spring at Mississippi State. Students must earn at least a 3.8 grade point average to make the list.
