LYMAN, MS (WLOX) - Harrison Central High School will begin a search for a new head football coach following the retirement of Ronnie Cuevas.

Cuevas told WLOX Tuesday night that he notified Principal Torry Holloway and Athletic Director Lonnie Tillman before the season kicked off that he would step down after the 2009 season.

He said he can do what he wants, when he wants to it.

"I can be my own boss and I definitely will spend more time fishing," Cuevas said.

He also said spending so much time on the football field and in preparation for games, he missed a lot of time with his wife and three daughters.

"I will have more time now for my two grandchildren."

Coach Cuevas posted 26 wins and 38 losses at Harrison Central from 2004 through the 2009 season.  In two years at Starkville High School (2001-2202) Cuevas ran off 19 victories and 6 defeats.  From 1990 through 2001 Cuevas coached the Gulfport Admirals to 97 wins and 51 defeats.

Coach Cuevas has been dealing with a couple of health issues this past season but said that had nothing to do with his retirement.

After following the career of Coach Cuevas, I can say he was an honorable head coach who cared for his players and gave 100 percent on and off of the playing field.  He will be missed.

Good luck Coach Cuevas, you deserve it and enjoy your retirement!
