Harrison Co. EOC relatively quiet Monday night

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The Harrison County Emergency Operations Center was almost empty Monday night.

"We are staffed, but we are at a limited staff," Emergency Management Agency Director Rupert Lacy said. "A lot of agencies are doing this storm at their offices."

Those who were at the facility included representatives from the Mississippi National Guard and Coast Electric Power Association. Both were on hand just to monitor the situation.

Lacy said the lack of activity is a good sign. As of late Monday afternoon, the center had not received many phone calls.

"People are aware, but I want to say that we saw a percentage who have this wait and see attitude. Again, it is November, and we just don't historically have this."

If nothing else, Lacy calls this a reminder that we are still in hurricane season. In fact sometimes, tropical systems can develop, after the season is over. Lacy recalls a few years ago, when a tropical system developed just before New Year's.

As Lacy pointed out, you never want to second guess Mother Nature.
