TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Tupelo High School football coach Eric Collins has resigned.
Collins stepped down Monday as coach and assistant athletics director. He was suspended by the Tupelo Public School District Oct. 22 for an unspecified violation of district policy.
Collins will remain as a teacher through the end of the school year.
Collins told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal that his resignation was best for himself and the Tupelo football program.
Collins' team had a 1-6 record when he was suspended. He had a 36-30 record in six years at Tupelo.
School district officials say the search will begin to find a new coach.
Lamar Aldridge, the team's defensive coordinator, has been interim head coach.
