HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - An investigation is underway into what caused a two-car accident involving a Harrison County sheriff's deputy.  State troopers will determine what caused the wreck on a rural road.

Accident investigators tried to recreate what happened around 11 am Sunday morning.

"A sheriff's deputy was en route to a structure fire on West Dubisson Road in the county," Capt. Patrick Coleman said.  "While en route to that particular call, he was involved in a vehicle accident on Gulfhaven Road."

Officials are not releasing much information, but Sheriff's officials said the deputy was attempting to pass a motorist when the two cars collided.  They said the deputy was shaken but wasn't hurt.

"He's doing fine.  He has no injuries whatsoever," said Capt. Coleman. "The other person that was involved in the accident had complained of head pain and shoulder pain. [She was]transported to Garden Park hospital in Gulfport."

Harrison County Sheriff's deputies said its fortunate the accident did not end in tragedy, but they want to remind drivers what they should do if they see blue lights in their rear view mirror.

"If you hear the sheriff's department or any police department vehicle with their lights and siren on, please yield to the right if you can in a safe manor," said Capt. Coleman.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Department is not releasing the names of either the deputy or the other driver at this time.
