GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) - The closure of the Allens Inc., plant in Moorhead has left the Community Food Pantry in Greenwood without a major source of donations.
Pantry director Tommy Ellett told The Greenwood Commonwealth the pantry may eventually have to buy items that Allens had been supplying for free.
Allens, based in Siloam Springs, Ark., has announced it's closing the Moorhead canning plant. Production has been shut down, putting the 130 production employees out of work.
Ellett says representatives from the pantry have been making two or three trips a year to collect canned goods from Allens. Usually they bring back three pallets of food at a time - an amount that could cost the pantry about $3,000 if it has to pay for it.
