Hurricane damaged trees being saved in Biloxi

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - A machine using 200 pounds of air pressure injected a liquid nutrient around the root system of oak trees at Biloxi's Town Green Thursday.

"It's a passion our company has to save old trees," said Bob Fulgham, founder of National Tree Preservation, Inc.

The city of Biloxi has hired Fulgham to save trees ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.

"Water came in and stayed for eight or nine hours then pulled," City of Biloxi Arborist Eric Nolan said. "When it pulled out, the top soil was stripped." 

Bob Fulgham works on trees all around the South. He said his technique encourages new growth on the trees.

"We just do what the Lord meant the tree to do in the first place," Fulgham said.

The injection is designed to give the root structure strength.

Biloxi brought Fulgham to the Town Green because the city recognizes how important it is to preserve the majestic oak trees that line the coast.

"They've been here longer than we have and they will be here after we're gone, so it's our job to take care of them while we're here," Nolan said.
