THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - It's supposed to be "A Streetcar Named Desire" but for the cast of a Nicholls State University production of the play, it's become "A Streetcar Named Disaster."
Nicholls was to present the Tennessee Williams play recently. But electrical problems at the university's Talbot Theater forced cancellation.
Students who endured eight weeks of preparations - from set building to constant rehearsals - said they were crushed at the news.
The problem stemmed from the burnout of an electric module that helps control the lights in the theater, according to university officials. The school authorized a purchase order of $17,000 for the part Oct. 19. However, the part needed to be built and shipped from Canada.
