BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Katrina's storm surge. Building by building, the Catholic boys school has been coming back from the storm. On Monday, St. Stanislaus opened its new cafeteria.

"I told the boys, it's a symbol of hope and our commitment to our mission," school President Brother Ronald Hingle said.

The contemporary building is called St. Stanislaus College Cafe. The rear of the structure features huge windows and is built around green space on the campus.

"It helps to connect all the buildings," Architect Edward Wikoff said.

For the past few years, the cafeteria staff had been forced to prepare meals in trailers set up on school grounds.

"Our staff has been heroic," Brother Hingle said.

The multi-million dollars structure was built with FEMA funds. Brother Ronald said it represents perseverance and hope.

"It's part of a resurrection of St. Stanislaus."
