RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A 24-year-old Franklin County woman has been convicted of raping a 13-year-old boy.
A jury of 6 men and six women deliberated for about an hour on Tuesday before convicting Ashley Turner of second-degree rape. She faces up to 20 years in prison when she is sentenced next week.
The boy testified that he was in his room watching wrestling when Turner, a family friend, walked in. He said one thing led to another and the two engaged in sex.
Assistant Franklin District Attorney Doug Evans told jurors that under Alabama law, a 13-year-old cannot consent to sex.
Defense attorney Rebecca Green Thomason said the youth was the aggressor.
