JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Tougaloo College students and faculty are mourning the loss of 2 freshmen cheerleaders killed in a head-on collision.
Another cheerleader in the car was hurt as was the driver of a sport utility vehicle involved in the crash Friday
Kiara Taylor, who was 18, and Shanna Whitt, who was 19, died at the scene. Both women were from Greenville.
Jackson police are searching for the driver of a black SUV who witnesses say may have caused the wreck. The Clarion-Ledger Newspaper reports a witness said the driver threw up his hands and drove away.
Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance confirmed witness accounts that the black SUV may have forced one vehicle into oncoming traffic, leading to the collision.
