THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - Both the prosecutor and defense attorneys say they expect progress next week at a hearing for a Bayou Blue man accused of killing a Lafourche Parish deputy by running over her in a stolen truck.
They won't say much more than that the hearing is Wednesday for Billy Joe Daigle, who has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder of Deputy Martha Woods-Shareef.
She tried to arrest Daigle on Aug. 20 for a burglary in Chackbay.
District Attorney Cam Morvant II says he has met with Shareef's family, Daigle's attorneys and Lafourche Parish sheriff's department officials.
Kerry Cuccia, director of the Capital Defense Project of Southeast Louisiana and Daigle's attorney, says only that he expects progress in the case.
Trial is scheduled in June 2010.
