Associated Press - June 23, 2009 9:54 AM ET

PELL CITY, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama Department of Corrections officer from the Childersburg Work Release Center has pleaded guilty to drug charges.

St. Clair County District Attorney Richard Minor said 31-year-old Shannon Cole Henry, of Ragland, pleaded guilty on Monday to distribution of a controlled substance, marijuana, and possession of marijuana first degree.

Minor said St. Clair County Circuit Court Judge Jim Hill sentenced Henry to serve 8 years in prison, but suspended the sentence and granted the defendant probation.

St. Clair County Assistant District Attorney Joey Stevens said that in trial the state would have shown that in November 2008 Henry sold or furnished a controlled substance to a reliable confidential informant working with authoriti4es.
