MDOT allocates $3M for Safe Routes to School

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Fourteen local entities in Mississippi with share in $3 million from the Safe Routes to School program.

The program is handled through the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

It helps local governments with new sidewalk construction and repairs to existing sidewalks, construction of bike and pedestrian paths, crosswalks, education, engineering and planning.

MDOT says funding will go for projects in Pelahatchie, Tishomingo, Greenville, Greenwood, Hattiesburg, Hernando, Jackson, Long Beach, Meridian, Oxford, Hinds County, Noxubee County, the Gulfport Police Department and the South Tippah School District.
