When temperatures drop, a South Mississippi woman steps up to help the homeless

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Overnight low temperatures are expected to drop into the 30′s several times over the next week in South Mississippi.

Favre with Shepherd of the Gulf Ministries is collecting cold weather supplies. Once she collects the donations, she plans to deliver them to homeless people on the Coast.

Favre is also looking for people to cook hot meals to be handed out.

“How can I go to bed when I know these people are out there on the ground in the tents? Some of them don’t even have a sleeping bag, and I’m going to sleep in my house nice and warm, I don’t think,” said Favre. “It just hit me. Get up and go, and I cooked a big pot of soup, and I took off.”

The items needed include coats, gloves, hats, blankets, sleeping bags, propane, candles and batteries.
