STONE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - If you heard a loud siren going off in Stone County Monday morning, there is no need to be alarmed.
Emergency officials were testing out a tornado alert system. The alert was supposed to be silent. That’s not how it went over the air, leading some residents to believe there may be a tornado or other emergency in the area. The Stone County Emergency Operations Center said it was an accident and that there is no reason to be alarmed.
According to EMA director Raven James, they usually do a silent test on Mondays and someone accidentally hit a button, sounding the audible alert.
