Cold weather shelters offer a warm place to stay along the Coast

GULF COAST (WLOX) - As we get more into the winter season, temperatures continue to drop on the Gulf Coast. Residents can expect a chilly weekend as the temperatures reach near freezing.

To help residents stay warm, several cold weather shelters are opening their doors to welcome people in.

The Salvation Army has two cold weather shelters.

  • The Salvation Army Area Command Headquarters is located at 2019 22nd Street. Doors will open at 4 p.m. and will close at 10 p.m. Dinner is at 6 p.m., and breakfast will be provided the following morning. 
  • The Salvation Army of Jackson County is located at 3217 Nathan Hale Ave in Pascagoula. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Dinner and breakfast will be served.

The Hancock County Cold Weather Shelter is also opening up its doors.

  • A shelter will be open from 6 p.m. until 9 a.m. located at the Old Spanish Trail Baptist Church at 5078 Hwy 90 in Bay St. Louis. If anyone needs a ride to the shelter contact Hancock County Dispatch at 228-255-9191.

In Pearl River County, the Office of Emergency Services will open a shelter.

  • The shelter will be open from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. at 810 Highway 11 in South Poplarville. Anyone utilizing the facility should bring their own bedding. pets are not allowed.
