SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - A big cold blast is still expected to hit the Gulf Coast by Sunday, bringing the potential for freezing temperatures and very cold wind chill.

Confidence has decreased on temperatures cold enough to damage pipes as per latest computer model trends suggesting slightly less cold air for coastal Mississippi.

Here’s a breakdown of what to expect, highlighting the worst potential impacts from this strong cold front:

THURSDAY, JAN 17 2019

  • Partly to mostly cloudy with a chance for showers. 
  • Chilly morning lows in the 40s. Cool afternoon highs in the 60s.

FRIDAY, JAN 18 2019

  • Partly to mostly cloudy with a chance for showers. 
  • Cool morning lows in the 50s. Mild afternoon highs in the 60s.

SATURDAY, JAN 19 2019

  • Showers likely, with a chance for thunderstorms. A very low risk for severe, damaging, weather.
  • Cool morning lows in the 50s. Mild afternoon highs in the 60s.

SUNDAY, JAN 20 2019

  • Much colder and windy. Skies gradually clearing. 
  • Cold morning lows in the 30s. Chilly afternoon highs in the 40s.
  • Cold wind chill in the 20s and 30s for much of the day

MLK DAY MONDAY, JAN 21 2019

  • Sunny and dry. Less windy than Sunday but perhaps slightly breezy in the morning. 
  • Very cold morning lows ranging from 27 to 34 degrees so protect sensitive plants. Confidence is not high in temperatures below 26 degrees which would be how cold it would have to be in order to cause pipe damage. Chilly afternoon highs in the 40s and 50s.
  • Very cold morning wind chill in the 20s possible so protect people and pets. 

TUESDAY, JAN 22 2019

  • Mostly cloudy with a chance for showers.
  • Chilly morning lows in the 40s. Mild afternoon highs in the 60s.
